posted about 1 year ago by CERV from Community Emergency Response Volunteers of the Monterey Peninsula
INTRODUCED by Senator Robert Casey. USSAAC is one of more than 50 organizations endorsing this legislation. What will it do? The READI for Disasters ACT will establish a National Commission on Disability Rights and Disasters. The Commission will: 1. Study the needs of individuals with disabilities, older adults and others with access and functional needs during emergency and disaster preparation, planning, response, recovery and mitigation. 2. Research and provide recommendations on how Federal, tribal, territorial, state, local and non-governmental response agencies can better coordinate and provide for the diverse needs of individuals with disabilities before, during and after a disaster. 3. Provide funding to direct disaster planning resources towards the needs of older adults, individuals with disabilities and others with access and functional needs and disaster-affected communities.
